Although it takes longer to reach Calais by ferry, the facilities we have on board mean that you can take a relaxing break from driving with a meal and a drink, meaning that you won’t have to stop for refreshments once you reach France. Plus, you can pick up your duty-free goods during your crossing when you travel by ferry whereas you need to leave enough time at the terminal to shop when you choose Eurotunnel.
Is it safe to travel to France by ferry during the Covid pandemic?
Travelling to France by ferry during the Covid pandemic is very safe. All areas of the ship are thoroughly cleaned both during and between crossings, there’s lots of room for social distancing, and there are plenty of hand sanitiser stations available for use. Our ferries to France have plenty of toilets on board, both in the main areas of the ship and in the Club Lounge. We also have baby changing facilities for those travelling with infants, and accessible toilets too. Access to toilets cannot be guaranteed when you travel by Eurotunnel and there are no disabled toilets on their shuttles.
Can you smoke on Eurotunnel or the ferry?
You are unable to smoke on Eurotunnel shuttles as the smoke will interfere with their fire detection systems. When you travel by ferry, you’ll find a designated outdoor smoking area which you can access throughout your crossing.
