About the ships
Built with sustainability at the forefront
The new Fusion Class ferries have been designed with a number of major innovations to reduce carbon emissions. The ship is propelled by a combination of fuel and battery power and has been designed to have the capacity to become carbon neutral in future.
The modular elements of the ship mean as technology develops and as more charging stations are brought in at ports, current generators can be removed and replaced with batteries.
The ship will also be the world’s largest double-ended ferry with two bridges meaning there is no need for it to turn, saving fuel on every trip.
Investment in customer experience
Enhanced customer experience has been considered across all aspects of the vessel's design, utilising customer feedback to deliver the spaces and features our passengers want most. Each public area has been designed to offer a unique character and atmosphere using a variety of colour palettes, high-quality materials and statement lighting.
P&O Pioneer also boasts our largest World Duty Free retail space at 588m2, bringing spectacular offers on some of the world's top brands.
Accessibility has also been considered at every turn. P&O Pioneer has two more passenger lifts (five lifts in total) aiding those with reduced mobility; all seating areas have space for wheelchairs and counters have been designed to ensure wheelchair accessibility.
P&O Pioneer will also be the first to have a ‘Changing Places’ toilet on the Dover-Calais route, which is larger and has a changing bench and hoist.
Entertainment for Kids of All Ages
Onboard our P&O Fusion Class, we have expanded our entertainment options for children and teens. For younger children, the ship boasts a bespoke maritime themed soft play area with thoughtfully placed seating areas for parents.
Older children and teenagers needn't feel left out. Onboard Pioneer, they are well catered for with plenty of tech options. Interactive digital screens, including a Digital Selfie Wall, Arcade Games, plenty of charging points and excellent Wi-Fi are just some of the perks of travelling with us.
Onboard Dining
Dining onboard has never been easier thanks to the addition of new self service tills. Queues are a thing of the past!
Passengers have multiple dining options onboard P&O Pioneer, from the Food Market on Deck 8 to The Kitchen on Deck 9.
The new Food Market layout has been designed with convenience and speed in mind (allowing you to spend more time exploring the rest of the ship) with ‘grab & go’ options, and self-serve tills serving some new additions as well as the classics you know and love. The interior design incorporates greenery and woodland scenes to create a natural, calm feel.
The bright and airy Kitchen dining area has a wider range of food and drinks, seasonal food offerings, as well as P&O’s signature dishes such as Fish & Chips with beer-battered cod and chunky chips, premium beef burgers, chicken burgers with signature sauce and the ‘Moving Mountains’ vegetarian burger.
